Summer 2023: What Hapened?

This eventful summer was filled with many different memories. We all spent time at the beach, or at numerous different county fairs. Students also participated in many… unique trends.

The start of the summer started with both McDonalds and teenagers around the world celebrating Grimace’s birthday. People who participated in the trend celebrated by taking a sip of the milkshake featured in his birthday meal, and then pretending the purple furry monster left a gruesome scene.

Artists also released albums that are still climbing to high ranking spots on the Billboard Chart this fall including Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) by Taylor Swift, Zach Bryan by Zach Bryan, and UTOPIA by Travis Scott. Taylor Swift announced her re-release of Speak Now during her Eras Tour, which also took place this summer. This album contained all of her previous tracks from the album she first recorded ten years ago, along with six new songs “From the Vault”. On August 25, 2023, Zach Bryan released his self-titled album featuring a poem titled “Fear of Fridays (Poem).” UTOPIA by Travis Scott … and features a variety of other artists;including,SZA, Future, Drake, and 21 Savage.

“I think it’s a 10/10 album,” Charlie Uzelac, 12, said, “All of the songs are very unique.”

“I did the Grimace trend and it was really fun. All of my friends got covered in the smoothie it was a great video,” Max White, 9, said.

People also participated in “Barbieheimer”; they would dress up in all pink to go see “Barbie” in theaters, followed by an all black outfit change and watching “Oppenheimer.” Both Barbie and Oppenheimer were big hits in the movie industry this summer, both having over 80 percent rotten tomato votes.

Summer proved to be one for the books, and joined many different people together; girls got in their pinkest outfits and headed to the movie theater, and friendgroups had their skin stained purple after pouring berry milkshakes all over them. As fall approaches, music listeners have more to look forward to as Drake and Taylor Swift prepare to drop this October. As we start this new school year, we can also reminisce on all that this summer had to bring.
