Fortnite is Back and Bigger Than Ever

Since its launch on July 21, 2017, Fortnite has become a gaming sensation. Due to its simplicity and free-to-play nature, the game has attracted millions of players from across the world. It has become one of the most influential games of our generation.

Simply put, Fortnite is a survival game. 100 players drop on an island and fight to be the last one standing. The game's simplicity makes it addictive.

Collaborating with global names like Star Wars and the NFL, Fortnite has made billions of dollars. The game has grown from 30 million users at the end of 2017 to around 400 million users today, according to Priori Data.

Although the game appears to be getting more popular, nothing compares to the beginning of Fortnite. The dynamic colors, the lack of skill needed to win, and the nostalgia that comes with the memories of the early days of Fortnite are unmatched. “Old Fortnite was so great because it brought you and your friends together in the best of your young life,” Bleydyn Jarvis, 11 said.

Some thought the game would never return to this glory. But by some miracle, it did.

On November 3rd, Fortnite’s “OG” season started. With this update, the old map and old weapons returned along with millions of players. Instead of adding new weapons and points of interest like they usually do, developers just did what players have been asking for and brought the game back to the way it originally was: back to the old days.

The launch brought in 44.7 million players, 102 million total hours of play, and a new one-day player recordaccording to Fortnite’s X (formerly Twitter) account.

The November 3rd update was set in Chapter 1: Season 5, one of the most popular seasons during the game’s “peak.” This season featured popular items like the Rift-To-Go and the grappler as well as popular points-of-interest like Lazy Links and Tilted Towers. Although Season 5 was originally released in July of 2018, players still flocked to play on the Chapter 1 map nearly five years later.

The OG Chapter started with Season 5, went to Season 6 on November 9th, then to Seasons 7 and 8 on November 16th, and finished with seasons 9 and X from November 23rd to its conclusion.

Unfortunately, this fun was temporary because Chapter 4:Season OG only lasted until Sunday, December 2nd.

Although this unforgettable season ended, it's likely that many of the returning players will stay with the game they used to love.
