Why fans think Taylor Swift and Harry Styles committed vehicular manslaughter
Many fans believe that Harry Styles and Taylor Swift committed vehicular manslaughter. Okay, hear me out on this one. I know many people will roll their eyes at this conspiracy theory, but it wasn’t built on nothing.
For background, Harry Styles and Taylor Swift dated for about 3 months from November of 2012 to January of 2013.
Out of their relationship came many hit songs. Fans have concluded that Taylor Swift wrote the 1989 songs Style, Out of the Woods, Clean, and maybe a few more about Harry Styles. And it’s theorized that Styles’ songs Ever Since New York and Two Ghosts were about Taylor.
From Swift’s lyrics, people can tell that Harry Styles was not a great driver when they were dating. The song Style opens up with “Midnight, you come and pick me up no headlights,” which then leads to, “he can’t keep his wild eyes on the road.” If that wasn’t enough to convince people of Harry’s bad driving skills, the Out of the Woods lyrics, “Remember when you hit the brakes too soon? Twenty stitches in the hospital room,” should win them over.
The whole chorus of Out of the Woods, is Taylor wondering if they’re out of a tough spot. It could be that she’s just referring to a hard time in their relationship, however, it could also be her wondering if she’s “in the clear yet,” after their hit and run accident.
If the theory is true, and Styles did hit someone, it seems based on the lyrics of Ever Since New York, that it really weighed on him. “And I've been praying, I never did before, understand I'm talking to the walls, I've been praying ever since New York,” he sings. It makes sense that after a traumatic experience, he’d find himself praying.
It’s possible that his lyrics “We're just two ghosts standing in the place of you and me, trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat,” from the song Two Ghosts, is also him reflecting on how the accident changed him and Taylor.
After dating Harry Styles, Taylor Swift took a two year break from relationships, and it wasn’t until after her album 1989 came out, which had Styles, Out of the Woods, and Clean on it, that she began dating Calvin Harris. In the last song on the album, Clean, Taylor sings the lyrics, “gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean.” This song could’ve been referring to the point at which she was able to move past the accident.
***This article is intended to explain the theory— I do not believe it to be true. Taylor or Harry, if you’re reading this I love you so much and I want to be your friend.
