The 2nd round of the NCAA tournament has ended, and once again, March lives up to its. UCF (9 seed) was in a battle, with the favorite to win it all, Duke (1 seed). It was a back and forth game all the way through. College Basketball sensation, Zion Williamson drove up and was fouled by UCF center Tacko Fall, a 7 foot 6 inch behemoth who was dominating in the paint. That, unfortunately, was Tacko’s 5th foul and he fouled out with 15 points and 4 rebounds. Zion made the first free throw but missed the second. However, Duke forward, RJ Barrett grabbed the offensive rebound and put it in for 2. The Blue Devils had a lead of 1 and with 7 seconds to go. UCF point guard B.J Taylor had a open look for a layup and could not convert, but Guard Aubrey Dawkins grabbed an offensive rebound and tried to tip it in but the ball bounced all around the rim before finally coming out and Duke survived the upset bid.

Michigan State (2 seed) punched their ticket back into the Sweet 16, with a 70-50 blowout of Minnesota (10 seed). This game was over within the first two minutes, Minnesota tried to comeback and got back within single digits but a 7-0 lone run by,Point Guard,Cassius Winston ended any hopes of Minnesota coming back. This was Michigan State’s first Sweet 16 since 2015.

There will definitely be a new champion this year as Purdue (3 seed) ended Villanova’s (6 seed) tournament hopes with a 87-61 victory. Purdue star, Carsen Edwards dropped a jaw dropping 42 points, hitting 9 threes and 6 rebounds. Overall, this round was much more exciting than the last. But, this round also did have its boring points. There were a lot of blowout games and almost all of the teams who expected to move on, did. Other viewers felt the same.

“It wasn’t that much of a surprise most of the higher ranked teams won.” Garrett Kiser,10, said. We still have not had a buzzer beater in the tournament yet the closest thing to a buzzer beats was the missed shot by Dawkins in the Duke game.

I think the Sweet 16 is going to see a lot of good matchups. Michigan State will play LSU (3 seed) as will as Duke and Virginia Tech (4 seed), who got a win over Liberty (12 seed) Sunday. I don’t see any of these games being Blowouts considering we’re getting into the higher seed matchups. This round will be much better than the first two and will have us glued to our couches.
