Taylor and Travis Take Over the World
Ever since Taylor Swift and “that guy on the Chiefs” relationship was publicly announced, Swifties and Chiefs fans have been following their status hand in hand. Fans first noticed the relationship between the two stars in July when Kelce was spotted in the crowd at Swift's Eras Tour stop at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium. Shortly after this sighting, Kelce somewhat confirmed the fans' dating rumors on his podcast “New Heights” which he co-hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce.
“I was disappointed that she doesn't talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings. So, I was a little butt-hurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her,” Kelce recalled.
He also went on to explain in the episode that he wrote his phone number on the bracelet hoping she would take it. Unfortunately for Kelce, his plan was unsuccessful.
Eventually, according to Billboard, when Kelce joined “The Pat McAfee Show”, he revealed that he “threw the ball in Taylor's court,” inviting her to a game to watch him play. Taylor caught the ball, and on September 24 attended the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the Chicago Bears. Shocked Swifties and football fans cheered on the Chiefs to victory. Kelce even played one of his best games to date, scoring seven receptions for 69 yards and a touchdown, according to The Kansas City Star. Not only did Kelce play a good game, but after Swift attended the game, ‘the Vivid Seats site had a 173 percent increase in traffic for the Chiefs-Jets game,’ according to ESPN Stats & Information.
“This relationship is a good reminder though, you have got to shoot your shot. He used that bracelet and shot his shot. You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take,” SJHS assistant principal and football coach, Mr. Andrew Pratley said.
Kelce’s jersey also became one of the top five NFL jerseys selling in September, bringing a 400 percent increase in jersey sales. If fans didn't think Kelce and Swift were not dating before, they were surely wrong now.
“She seems to be very happy when she is at the games she is always smiling. As of right now, I have no reason to lead me to dislike Travis, so I do support their relationship and find them very cute together,” Isla Strait, 9 said.
Taylor bringing in a more female audience to football–since most of her fans are young girls–spiked the number who watched the Kansas City Chiefs playing the New York Jets. According to Billboard, NBC even used Swift’s song “Welcome to New York” in a TV commercial promoting the game. An average of nearly 27 million fans tuned in to watch the game. By the second quarter, there were about 29.2 million viewers, as reported by NBC Sports. This game was the most-watched Sunday program since the Super Bowl which aired last February, NBC Sports also reported.
“Their relationship seems to be really helping sales for both of them by combining NFL fans and Swifties. It’s a great market play if nothing else,” Mr. Pratley added.
The Chief’s player was also spotted at another Era’s Tour, but this time it was in Buenos Aires, Argentina on November 11, according to Billboard. Kelce was in a VIP tent next to Swift’s father during the show. During the last song of the show, Swift changed the lyrics in “Karma” from “Karma is the guy on the screen coming straight home to me” to “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me.” Fans hollered and screamed as Travis threw his hands up in surprise, as shown in a video shared by @Popbase. The couple ended the night with Swift running into Kelce's arms to kiss him once the show was over. Swifts and Chiefs fans alike continue to follow the couple's adorable relationship.
