November Fashion Spotlight

Hugo Kapelke

Hugo Kapelke, 11, describes his style as “dress to impress.” Although he says his style may not be conventional at times, it is always “classy.” Usually wearing sweater, vests, and collared shirts, Hugo gets his clothes from various places such as Men’s Warehouse, Kohl’s, and local thrift stores including Mosaic Resale and 6 Degrees Resale Store.

“I don’t really take any inspiration from anyone,” Hugo said when asked about where he gets his ideas. Hugo has developed his style over the past 3 years; he went from sweatpants and sweatshirts everyday, to khakis and casual clothes, to now evolving with a style that's personal to him.  “This year, it has really blossomed into what it is today,” Hugo finished.

Lanie Smith

When asked, Lanie Smith, 11, would describe her style as “colorful.” Lanie enjoys diverse styles and is never strict on keeping one aesthetic. Some of her favorite clothing items include sweaters, overalls, and her red corduroy pants. Shopping at multiple different stores, Lanie thrifts some clothes, buys pieces from Target and Meijer, and shops online. One of her main style inspirations is her sister, Ellie Smith, 12, whom she shares her wardrobe with.

“She started being more fashionable before I did, so I guess I’ve just always kind of copied what she’s done,” Lanie said.

She doesn't care if an outfit is socially acceptable, either.

“I’ve started wearing more stuff that I like. As long as it’s cute to me, I’ll still wear it even if it’s not popular,” Lanie said.
