You are getting sleepy…very sleepy
Hypnotism
You know how you go on your phone and start scrolling through Instagram and end up losing track of time? You were so focused and concentrated that time just flew by. That is sort of how hypnosis works.
Hypnosis also referred to as hypnotherapy and is a trance-like state where your focus and concentration is heightened. During this state you are not asleep or unconscious. You are in an alternative state of consciousness in which you ‘let things happen.’ As you are entering hypnosis, you disconnect your mind from the body and its surroundings. Being hypnotized makes you feel very relaxed almost as if you are taking a nap. Hypnosis can be used for the treatment of many medical conditions or issues. This can include PTSD, depression, or weight loss. But it doesn’t always need to be for medical reasons—through hypnosis we can learn about the subconscious.
“The hypnotist has a process that he goes through that has been clinically proven and he's state certified so he knows what he is looking for after years of experience.” Mr. Lyle Hayden, psychology teacher at St. Joe High said.
As entertaining as hypnosis sounds, there are risks involved. This includes if the individual is working with an untrained hypnotist, there is a chance of memory loss if there are unintended suggestions made. This is considered one of the more serious risks, but others include headaches, dizziness, and anxiety. Even though hypnosis can be dangerous if practiced wrong, if done right it can be a very exciting and entertaining.
