Senior football players give their wrap up input

Max Altholz, 12; Outside Linebacker

When asked Max who his favorite athlete was, he said it is Ed Reed. Reed was a defensive back who played in the NFL from 2002-2013. In his career, he racked up 64 interceptions, 1590 yards, and seven touchdowns, according to Pro-Football-Reference.com. Max explained he idolizes Reed because he believes there’s no one with a work ethic quite like his.

Max’s favorite part of competing would have to be the competition itself, as being able to play gives him a reason to push himself, whether he’s in the weight room during the offseason or at practice. Being an athlete also makes him a better student because he believes that being a part of a team is his way of showing and reflecting how he is at school, like making as few mistakes as possible and being the best.

Sam Simpson, 12; Defensive End

Playing football had a big change for Sam this season, as he played a different position then last year, where he was linebacker. This year he was moved to the defensive line in a search to find where he plays best. Some athletes that he looks up to are D.K. Metcalf, wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks, and George Kittle, tight end for the San Francisco 49ers. Their energies inspire him.

When Sam gets on the field, he plays with a chip on his shoulder, because he plays to show that all his hard work leads to nothing but domination. Overall, he believes that being a student-athlete puts him at a higher standard.
