Stay active during quarantine

As sports get canceled and the gyms close, it’s easy to give yourself an excuse to spend this break on the couch watching Netflix all day. But, getting consistent exercise is one of the only things we may be able to control in these uncertain times. With this in mind, I’ve compiled a list of workout programs and ideas for your break.

1. Peloton app’s free 90-day trial: The Peloton app has live or on-demand classes for strength, yoga, meditation, stretching, cardio, and more. It also has audios you can listen to while running or walking outside and 2-6 week programs you can join. While this app normally comes with the Peloton bike or treadmill, most of the classes can be done without that equipment. A nice thing about the app is that it has options to do quick, high-intensity workouts or longer workouts. If you choose to use the free 90-day trial, it will last you until the end of July, but make sure to cancel the subscription before it starts charging money.

2. Chloe Ting’s free workout challenges: Chloe Ting, a popular fashion, lifestyle, and travel blogger, has 10 free workout challenges that span from 14 days to 8 weeks depending on which challenge. Some of the available programs are the 35 day Summer Shred Challenge and the 25-day slim thigh challenge. What’s special about Chloe Ting is that she creates a schedule to guide you to a goal. Chloe’s challenges are very targeted toward women.

3. Nike Training Club Premium: Until further notice, Nike is making their premium workout app free. The app offers body-part focused workouts, strength workouts, yoga, Cardio Hiit workouts, as well as a variety of challenges. These classes range from beginner to advanced so anyone can find a class they like. To complement the workouts, Nike also includes nutritional articles and tips on their app. You can also download its partner app, Nike Run Club to get “guided runs.” The apps connect and will record your progress. This is a great time to take advantage of the Premium membership.

4. Fitness 305: These YouTube videos offer a not-as-common (and for some, a more fun) type of workout: dancing. Every day at 12 PM and 6 PM, you can go to their youtube channel and do a live dance class. If these times don’t work, there are lots of other videos on their channel to choose from. This is a great opportunity to acquire a new skill if you aren’t naturally a dancer, while also staying active.

While these are just a few of the many ways you can exercise over the break, they’re the platforms I found most helpful. Let exercise be a part of your daily schedule, and you’ll feel at least somewhat accomplished at the end of the day.
