Clubs Reopening
How Clubs Differ from One Another
On June 22nd, the state of Michigan recalled most of their remaining restrictions regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. This allowed for school clubs to once again meet in person and participate in various activities.
The LIT club, for example, did not have any face to face meetings at all last year with participants reading the chosen book on their own. This year however, students are allowed to meet face-to-face to discuss the books they’ve read. It’s a great chance to work on reading comprehension and literacy skills, along with meeting new people.
“Last year, we just got books to read but no meetings were held, so I’m excited to once again discuss in-person the topics of each book,” Isabela Dias, 10, said after being asked how her experience was in the LIT club last year.
The film club is a student-led organization headed by Gabe Holt, Jack Francis, and Matthew Hutchinson. It gives students the chance to delve more into depth about films that concern their interests. Meetings are held bi-weekly: Mondays are for reviewing movies while Thursdays are a time designated to working on their own student films. The club also provides opportunities for students interested in the technical aspects of film, such as animation and editing.
The French club led by Mrs. Elkins is an engaging opportunity that allows students to interact with French culture and learn more in depth about the language.
“I heard we will take some fun trips this year like the Chicago visit, so that, along with the food, are probably the two things I’m most excited about.” Jintong He, 10, said after being asked what she was looking forward to doing with the club this year.
