Reliving Memorable Moments at SJHS
After a challenging year of change, 2022 is slowly ending. With the disappearance of the Coronavirus, the start of the most significant armed conflict since World War II, and some considerable economic uncertainty, 2022 has been a rough year. When we look at the bigger picture, 2022 seemed unpleasant– but what did it look like at SJHS?
History has been made this year at SJHS in sports, such as football and swim. This season marked the first conference win since 2015 for the Varsity Football team, and the record for running the most yards in a single game. The Girls Swim Team also did great this season, making its way to State and breaking records, such as the 100-meter breaststroke from Madison Tyburczy, 10.
“Many of our girls have dropped their time over the season, which is great,.” Leah Rodriguez, 11, said. “Coach Janet’s effort makes practice a lot better.”
SJHS was home to many events over this first semester, many of which made a positive impact. For example, on November 9, the SJHS student council welcomed the veterans of Saint Joseph to enjoy breakfast here at the high school.
“The veteran's breakfast went well. There were about 120 people, including veterans and their families. They were very appreciative.” John Norland, 12, said.
As well as organizing the breakfast, the SJHS student senate helped form the Pep Rally, which invited the football players, the dance team, and cheerleaders to spark energy in the students of SJHS.
“It was great to get back into it, the first pep rally of the year. Ultimately, I think it brought the school spirit up,” John added.
Outside of sports and extracurricular activities, the student body of SJHS formed some great memories this year.
“I really enjoyed decorating the golf carts for Homecoming week.” Sophie Pattinson, 9, said. “Being with my friends and doing something for the school was really fun.”
Charly Shell, 10, loved playing in the annual powderpuff football game. “My team, the juniors and sophomores, won really well. There was great teamwork, and the coaches were great too. I can’t wait to do it again next year.”shell stated.
Even just at the lunch table, great memories were formed. “One of the funniest moments from this year was when I Doordashed Wingstop at lunch, and it was delivered an hour later.” Cam’ron Warr, 11, said. “It was in this giant bag, and I was so embarrassed to walk into Mrs. Volpi’s class with 10 wings, a large fry, and a medium lemonade.”
Throughout a year of difference, we saw SJHS change, and even though this year might not have been perfect, the students of SJHS still made the best of it. Let’s hope that 2023 can be an even better year.
