During this quarantine, we have all likely had extra time to daydream and question the random things in life, like cheese curds! So I figured I would decide which were the best fried cheese curds in our area. I compared cheese curds from Buffalo Wild Wings, Coach’s Bar and Grill, and North Shore. Cailynn Junk, 10, and Emma Modigell, 10, helped out with the taste-testing, and we gave each place a rating 1-10, 10 being the best.

Coach’s was first up on the list, and the first look when opening the box was not appealing. They were all clumped together, making it hard to pull apart. It looked as if all the cheese curds had sunk to the bottom of the box. The average score for overall taste was a 4. They were overly greasy, small, and didn’t consist of much cheese. We discovered that most of the cheese melted to the bottom of the box, so it was basically greasy batter.

Next up was Buffalo Wild Wings, we gave them a score of 5. The only reason that it got a 5 was because of the Southwestern Ranch sauce. Their curds were smaller and made with cheddar cheese.

“These taste like chicken. I guarantee you that they were fried in chicken grease,” Cailynn said. Granted, we cannot confirm they were, but they definitely had a very distinct chicken flavor to them. But with the southwestern ranch sauce, it took away that flavor. If you ever order BWW cheese curds, make sure you get the sauce.

The last place we ordered curds from was North Shore. The overall rating was a solid 9. These cheese curds just were above and beyond. They are made with mozzarella cheese, were a good size, and had a lot of cheese. The cheese curds were not very greasy either. You could eat these by themself and they would taste great.

In conclusion to this wonderful taste-testing experience, North Shore won over our taste buds! Now I will say that if you don’t prefer mozzarella cheese then go for Buffalo Wild Wings, which are cheddar. But they still have the extra chicken flavor that we don’t need when eating cheese curds. North Shore definitely has the best cheese curds in our area. If you need a new place to get take out during quarantine, I highly recommend North Shore. Get a burger and enjoy eating it with cheese curds on the side!
