Albums Perfect for Fall

Flicker- Niall Horan: Niall Horan’s use of acoustic guitar and calming voice provides the perfect songs for enjoying crisp air, pumpkin spice lattes, and watching the leaves fall. Songs “Seeing Blind” and “Fire Away” radiate the feeling of first loves and fall romances, while the title track “Flicker” brings a sense of heartbreak to the album.

WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?- Billie Eilish: This album provides the perfect mixture of vibes: eerie Halloween and melancholy sorrow. “Every song on the album is something that happens when you sleep–sleep paralysis, night terrors, nightmares, lucid dreams,” Eilish said in an interview with Apple Music in 2019. Although the album is portrayed with a creepy energy, songs like “i love you” and “listen before i go” quickly reaffirm this album’s deeper meaning.

For Emma, Forever Ago- Bon Iver: After listening to this album, it’s clear Bon Iver had an idea of the overall album’s feel during the writing process.  In fact, part of For Emma, Forever Ago was recorded in a cabin in the woods in Wisconsin, according to Apple Music. “His songs just have a gloomy, rainy day vibe to them,” Izzy Dias, 11, said. This album is great for listening to under gray clouds and gloomy skies. The instrumentals shown throughout this album can be paired perfectly with the sound of a light rainstorm.

Hozier- Hozier: Hozier’s first album has a very dusky aura to it, which is ideal for listening to as the days shorten and the weather gets grayer. This album is more upbeat and loud, causing all of these songs to emanate strong feelings of happiness. “Anything by Hozier is on my fall playlist. I get such a calming feeling that I also get when I look outside and see all the colorful leaves falling when I listen to his album. It makes me feel good,” Mari Rank, 10, said.

Melophobia- Cage The Elephant: What gives off better fall and Halloween vibes than an album whose name literally means “fear of music”? Along with a fan favorite, “Cigarette Daydreams”, Melophobia’s tracklist contains, “Telescope”. This song has a slow, calming start that eventually picks up. Additionally, Melophobia’s questionable cover –consisting of a deconstructed face and a black and white background – ties this album together to make it great for autumn.

folklore- Taylor Swift: folklore strays away from Taylor Swift’s typical pop and country music: showcasing her lyrical talents in a folk tone. Folklore’s calm cover compliments the peaceful songs well. “‘“Cardigan’” gives off such an autumn vibe,” Caroline Corning, 12, said. “I think Taylor really got her point across.” Along with “cardigan”, this album features songs like “betty”, “mirrorball”, and “invisible string” which give off strong nostalgic feelings.
