“CORONA ROBBED ME OF MY SENIOR YEAR”

is what a lot of kids around the world might be saying during this unfortunate pandemic. And it’s true; I never got to play my first season of tennis, or go to worlds with my robotics team, or attend my very first prom.

But this year gave me much more than I lost.

I came to St. Joe as a senior who lived her high school life behind a computer screen, enrolled into a different online school each year. I had no idea what it was like to go to homecoming, or eat lunch in a cafeteria with a jukebox, or cheer your sports teams on. And I never thought I would learn euchre in psych class or dress up for Frat Boy Day in spirit week, or make tik toks with my friends.

I made so many memories that I wouldn’t have made anywhere else with anybody else. I learned so much here and sometimes it’s just the little things that forced me to stepped out of my comfort zone, like giving my first book presentation in Mrs. Klus’s class, or selling ads to businesses for the yearbook, or, quite shockingly, actually enjoying math in Mr. Miesse’s class.

Each experience taught me something new. So yes, the coronavirus stole the last few months of my senior year, but did I really lose? Because what I see when I look back on this year, I see a girl who decided to transfer to St. Joe in hopes of gaining an unforgettable last year––and no one can tell me I didn’t accomplish that.
