Fall Sports Update

Girls Cross Country

October 2 the girls cross country team competed in the Berrien County Meet, where they placed first overall, winning the title for the second year in a row. Within the top five of the meet were three St. Joe athletes. Elena Figueroa, 9, in first place, Riley Mullin, 12, in second place, and Jillian Tunnicliff, 12, in fourth place. 

Boys Cross Country

Also competing in the Berrien County Meet October 2 was St. Joe’s boys cross country team, who placed second overall. Notable competitors were Shay White, 10, who placed fifth, and Will Fiesbeck, 11, who placed sixth in the meet. The boys and girls team’s next meet is home on October 6 in the SMAC West Jamboree.

Boys Tennis

The boys tennis team’s season began this August, and their regional match will be hosted in Paw Paw on October 7. Mattawan High School and Paw Paw High School will be their competitors. Their last match was September 29 at Vicksburg High School, where the Bears were victorious 8-0.

Girls Golf

September 30 the girls team competed in a tri-meet with Bridgman High School Bees and Coldwater High School Cardinals. The girls beat the Cardinals, but lost to the Bees. Many of the Bears swimmers qualified for their upcoming MISCA Meet, hosted at Calvin College October 8 and 9.

Girls Volleyball

This year the girls varsity volleyball team beat Lakeshore High School in the annual Dig Pink game to help fight against breast cancer. The Lancers hosted the match on September 22. In their most recent match against Portage Northern High School the girls lost 3-2. Their upcoming match is away against Buchanan High School October 11.

Boys Soccer

Nearing the end of their regular season, the St. Joe varsity boys soccer team will compete in the first round of their SMAC Tournament October 5 at home. The match will begin at 6:30 pm that evening. Their most recent match against Loy Norrix High School yielded a Bears victory 3-1.

Girls Swim

Competing in their Pre-Regional Tournament September 30, the girls matched off against fifteen other high school teams. The team placed fourth with a score of 361. In their SMAC Championship on September 29 they placed third.

Football

The Varsity Bears currently stand 5-1 this fall season. Their most recent home victory against Okemos High School ended with Okemos surrendering during the game’s fourth quarter and the scoreboard reading 75-0 Bears. Friday, October 8, the team will play the Lakeshore Lancers for the “War by the Shore” rivalry game.
