Ongoing NFL playoffs updates
Russell Wilson and his team getting ready for their game against the Los Angeles Rams.
NFL Wild Card Weekend 2021 was interesting, to say the least. There was a new format requiring six games to be played instead of four. So, here were my predictions and where they went wrong.
Game #1: No. 7 Colts @ No. 2 Bills
Prediction: Bills 30-23
Result: Bills 27-24
Since the Buffalo Bills won, it was their first win in the playoffs since 1995. Quarterback Josh Allen and Wide Receiver Stefon Diggs were the star players for the Bills. But the Bills defense was a big flaw in the game, giving up 472 yards of offense to the Colts, almost blowing a 24-10 lead in the fourth quarter.
Game #2: No. 6 Rams @ No. 3 Seahawks
Prediction: Seahawks 17-9
Result: Rams 30-23
The Rams surprised everyone. Their defense was able to put a ton of pressure on Seattle’s QB Russell Wilson, sacking him five times. One of the biggest plays for LA had to be when their cornerback Darious Williams exploded through a crowd of Seahawks, intercepted Russell Wilson, and returned the interception for 6 points. Watch the play here.
Game #3: No. 5 Buccaneers @ No. 4 Football Team
Prediction: Buccaneers 17-3
Result: Buccaneers 31-23
On Saturday night during his win against the Football Team, Tom Brady broke 2 records. One being that Brady is the oldest player to throw a touchdown pass in a playoff game. And the second one is the fact that he has 31 playoff wins which is the most career playoff wins by a QB since 1950. Brady will definitely keep pushing that first record since he’s the oldest QB in the NFL with more games to play.
Game #4: No. 5 Ravens @ No. 4 Titans
Prediction: Ravens 31-17
Result: Ravens 20-13
On Sunday, QB Lamar Jackson had his first playoff win, putting the Ravens at 6-0 for away Wild Card games. The Ravens offense had a total of 236 yards, and their defense kept RB Derrick Henry to only 40 yards, which is shocking since Derrick Henry ran for 2,000 yards this season.
Game #5: No. 7 Bears @ No. 2 Saints
Prediction: Saints 28-9
Result: Saints 21-9
Honestly, after watching this game on Nickelodeon, I think they should host at least one NFL game per week. The announcers made everything understandable for all ages, and the Nickelodeon animations on the screen made everything fun. But, as to the actual game, most people knew what the outcome was going to look like. The Saints could’ve played that game with their eyes closed and they still would’ve beat the Bears. It was just unfortunate that Mitch Trubisky won MVP of the game when his team lost.
Game #6: No. 6 Browns @ No. 3 Steelers
Prediction: Steelers 31-10
Result: Browns 48-37
For players on the Steelers that are going to retire soon like Ben Roethlisberger and Maurkice Pouncey, this game was just unfortunate. Since the Browns won, this was their first playoff game in 18 years. At the end of the first quarter, the Browns were leading 28-0. But, it wasn’t until the second half when the stakes started to rise because the Steelers could’ve actually came back & won. But, the Browns ended up winning 48-37.
