Today, December 1, Governor Gretchen Whitmer took the stage to discuss updates on the spread of Coronavirus across Michigan. Governor Whitmer received a lot of backlash for ordering a partial shutdown across the entirety of the state for restaurants, high schools, and more. Since then, Whitmer has been trying to keep Michiganders united and ease tension from those boycotting the shutdown. However, in Whitmer’s announcement today she seemed to have a more positive outlook given the consistent decrease in case numbers since the shutdown went into effect and hasn’t decided whether or not she will extend the shutdown past the initial end date of December 8. Yet, Governor Whitmer and Chief Medical Executive, Dr. Khauldun predict there will be a spike in cases because of those who traveled for thanksgiving. What does this mean for St. Joe students? We should all be prepared and flexible with the possibility of returning to schools or possibly an extended period online.
