Friday, May 14, St. Joe seniors and juniors celebrated prom. This year’s theme was “footloose on the field” to commemorate the fact that prom 2021 would stand out from others because it took place on St. Joe’s football field.

After Covid-19 left students without a 2020 prom, the prom committee found a way to ensure student safety and fun by delivering a prom that would comply with COVID guidelines. As a result, St. Joe held its first football field prom.

“Prom this year was not what I was expecting it to be for my senior year, but I’m glad they still put on a prom and put their effort into giving us one,” Symone King, 12, said.

Like many other seniors, Symone did not go to prom as an underclassman and couldn’t go as a junior due to lockdown, making this her first and only prom.

But different venue and mask mandate aside, this prom still upheld many traditions. A prom court was crowned, dancing was allowed and not sectioned off by groups, and there was still a DJ to keep the night lively.

This prom, like most other events this past year, was different from the norm, but still took the hard work of the individuals involved and was enjoyed by many who attended.
