American actress Olivia Rodrigo just released her debut album, Sour, last Friday, May 21. A departure from her usual work, this album was her first shot at at being a solo music artist. However, her previous work for Disney on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, was certainly an echo of music talent. On the show’s soundtrack, she wrote one song herself and co-wrote another with a fellow castmate.

Many SJHS students were immediate fans of the album upon their first few listens. “Wow, so good,” Mae Fischer, 12, said.

However other listeners, weren’t as quick to call her album a favorite, wishing for more diversity in the topic of her music.

“The songs were good, but I’ve heard better music.” Anna Weber, 11, said.

Despite these mixed reactions, almost all listeners can appreciate her singing and songwriting capabilities.

Her voice is golden like the wrappers they put around that chocolate coins” Cameron Schmitt, 12,  said.
