October Fashion Spotlight
For senior Ellie Bailey, standing out is the most important part of her style.
“I don’t know; I’d say my hair is probably my most, like, defining feature,” Ellie said, though her neon locks were covered by a black bucket hat for the day. She changes her hair color frequently, and often, her clothing follows that change. She likes to match the colors of her outfits to her current hair color, or to pick one or two colors to base her look on.
Though she takes some inspiration from her friends, Ellie feels that she has developed a style that is uniquely her own. A uniqueness that doesn’t stop with articles of clothing; Ellie’s accessorization also plays a big role in her look, with various nose piercings, an eyebrow piercing, and layers of chunky necklaces. Shopping mostly at thrift stores, along with a few retail stores like Akira, Ellie has crafted her sense of style on funky statement pieces and color matching.
When Finn Stockton, 12, is choosing an outfit, he only keeps the opinions of one person in mind: himself.
“I like to dress the way that I like to dress,” Finn said, sporting a simple outfit of straight-leg jeans, suede Nike Dunk Lows, and a green logo hoodie from Tyler, the Creator’s Golf le Fleur x Converse collaboration. Finn thinks it’s important to project a good image of himself, and feels that his everyday style is a great way to achieve that. Simply put, when he thinks he looks good, he feels good.
Though he shops at stores like Urban Outfitters and Levi’s, Finn finds many of his pieces on resale websites like Ebay, where he can buy from independent sellers. Much of his fashion is self-inspired, but he still likes to draw from the styles of his favorite musicians, as well as pull bits and pieces he likes from current trends.
