February Fashion Spotlight
Hadyen Flynn, 12 showed up to his interview in a tailored coat and some nice kicks, his previous style a pale comparison to the present.
“My art table would joke around about my basic style, so I decided I would dress up more,” Hayden explained.
Since then, his style has developed into what he describes as “preppy academia”, as a result of wearing classic brands, dressed up by his nice, black coat. Having a closet staple—like a classy coat from a loved brand, or some nice sneakers—can elevate any look.
“I like to buy generic items from random brands so I can mix and match outfits. It's about having a strong foundation in the basic items. For the most important items—sweaters, shirts, etc.—I like to buy brands that are known for lasting a long time, so I never have to rebuy,” he said.
For Hayden, it’s all about the longevity of a garment, both in the quality of its manufacturing and in the ways it can be styled.
For Anna Weber, 12 it's all about the thrifting treasure hunt. This started during her junior year, when thrifting videos were the craze on YouTube.
“I’m looking for something that no one else has—something special,” Anna said.
Thrifting became a way she could cultivate her wardrobe and make it more personalized, in more ways than one.
“I put so much effort into my outfits in the morning because if I have a good outfit on, my confidence is immediately higher. I feel like my outfits represent my personality without me even having to say anything,” she said.
In terms of dressing up her outfits, Anna is all about accessorizing, declaring that, when it comes to accessories, “the more the merrier”. Anna likes to dress up her outfits with all kinds of jewelry and details: rings, bracelets, and even a detailed manicure.
