Trends to leave in the 2010s

Fashion has changed quite a lot over the recent decade; some trends have endured till now, but others have been left behind—often, for the better. Fashion is a matter of opinion, and mine is just one of many, so please, don’t get offended if you still rock these looks.

1. Biker shorts:

This bizarre trend hit runways in 2018 when Off-White’s fashion show was dedicated to Princess Diana’s biker short look. Soon after, the Kardashians began wearing them and the rest of the industry picked up the trend.  “Biker shorts are for the Tour de France, not the runway,” Korenna Sohn, 11, said when asked about her least favorite fashion trends of the decade. “Kim Kardashian tried her best to make them happen and they’re really just unflattering.”

2. Cold-shoulder cut shirts:

When girls first started wearing these shirts to school, I was appalled. What was the point of even having the tiny strap if it was just going to cut out around the shoulder? Naturally, like many others, the trend swept me away, and soon enough, I had added a couple of cold-shoulder tops to my wardrobe. But, I’m convinced that cold-shoulder cut shirts will be one of the trends that our kids make fun of us for. I am very happy that these are no longer a fashion statement and hope that they become just a memory of the past.

3. Harem Pants:

In 2012, Justin Bieber brought back this style when he wore a pair to the American Music Awards. Luckily, the trend didn’t last long, but for a bit, there was a reemergence of the baggy, low-hanging pants. Fashion proves that it’s cyclical because Bieber had actually borrowed this style from MC Hammer in the 90s, however, I sincerely hope that 2012 was the last time I see the atrocious pants.

4. Low-waisted jeans:

This trend was more of a 2000s trend than one of the 2010s, however, it was still around in the very beginning of the 2010s, and sadly, since 2017, popular brands have been reintroducing them to the runways. In the Spring of 2017, Gigi Hadid wore low-rise jeans in the Tommy Hilfiger fashion show. Now, brands like Tom Ford and Chanel have also caught on to the trend. I hope that this fashion prediction is a false alarm, but many fashion websites like Glamour and The Cut believe they’re coming back.

5. Muscle tanks:

“Muscle tees suck if you are actually trying to show muscles,” Vincent Tedesco, 10, said–and I agree. Boys should only wear tank-tops at home (or never). When I see a boy in a muscle tee, I can’t help but think, what a douche. To all the boys that have these muscle tees in their closets, I urge you to get rid of them. Please just wear a normal t-shirt or if you really want to show off your muscles, wear no shirt at all.
