The school store

Maize Craze t-shirts and St. Joseph spirit wear have always been available for students at St. Joseph High School. But this school year, the marketing and business classes at SJHS are making it easier for students to buy Bear Wear and other school necessities by reopening the SJHS school store.

“A lot of schools operate one with their business classes, so I was excited to be able to take this on with my students this year,” Mrs. Angela Mellott, SJHS’ marketing and business teacher, said. She will be the advisor on the project, making sure everything runs smoothly.

The school store will be run by the Marketing III and IV students, but other business classes will also be involved in the process. Accounting students will handle the cash control process, Applied Business and Technology will assist with creating advertisements, and Marketing will be in charge of pricing products. All of these classes will have the ability to take ownership of the operations, order supply, record inventory, and even work on the advertising/publications for it, according to Mrs. Mellott.

“Most of us had all taken Marketing I and II, and we thought a great way to have a Marketing III and IV class would be through a school store,” Briggs Mosher, 12, said.

Lilly Halliday, 12, described how bringing back the school store will help promote school spirit and enhance the student body’s experience at SJHS. The store also wants to make more St. Joseph merchandise accessible to both the students and the staff.

The school store is going to have a stock of Bear Wear, school supplies, and snacks. They are looking into having a Dippin’ Dots ice cream machine and a slushie machine as well.

The current plan is to have the school store open by the end of October. It will be located in the area next to the pizza lunch line and will be open during both lunches and, eventually, before and after school. They will also be open during special school events such as parent-teacher conferences, back to school night, and other festivals.
