Boys Track Relay Team Wins at State Meet

The boys track team had eight runners go to the Division 1 state meet: Cole Toney 11, Will Fiesbeck 10, Alex Moyer 9, Andrew Moyer 12, Eli Zarotney 12, Caleb Garey 10, Trey McGinnis 10, and Preston Nichols 11. States took place on Saturday, June 5, in East Kentwood.

The boys 4x100 meter relay team of Eli Zarotney, Trey McGinnis, Cole Toney, and Preston Nichols won the state championship with a time of 42.65, edging out a victory by only one-tenth of a second to Saline.

“It was really nerve-racking in the beginning, it was a lot of fun, I never expected to be this high up and a state champion,” Eli Zarotney, the lone senior of the relay team, said.

The boys 4x800 team meter relay team of Will Fiesbeck, Andrew Moyer, Alex Moyer, and Cole Toney finished 17th with a time of 8:23.40.

For individual events, Cole finished 10th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.10, Nichols finished the 100-meter dash in 8th with a time of 11.08, and the 200-meter dash in 5th with a time of 22.23.

Trey ran well in the preliminary races but did not make it to the finals.
