Fashion Spotlight October

Luis Hernandez, 12

One word Luis used to describe his style is simplistic: as long as an outfit matches, he’ll wear it. To tie together his outfits, Luis wears jewelry.

“My favorite accessory is my ring with my name on it,” he said.

Generally, Luis buys his clothes at Kohl's, and occasionally thrifts. One of his prized possessions is a construction vest.

“It’s the most random thing in my closet, but I love it,” Luis Explained.

Finally, Luis wears whatever he wants, regardless of fashion trends.

Martina Lapekas, 11

One word to describe Martina’s style is random. Around 8th grade, Martina’s style began to develop. She enjoys wearing colorful clothes, but tends to stick with darker tones. Although Martina thrifts and buys clothes, she also makes, or sews them herself.

Additionally, Martina makes her own accessories– earrings, necklaces, and even clothing extensions, such as the chain garters pictured above. That being said, accessories make or break an outfit for Martina:

“The best way to complete an outfit is to have the best jewelry or well thought out makeup,” Martina explained.

Martina doesn’t follow a specific fashion trend, but loves to wear corsets, big earrings, and patterned mesh tops.

Luis Hernandez

“I don’t follow any specific fashion inspiration, I just wear whatever.”

Martina Lapekas

“About 30 percent of my closet is thrifted, and the rest are things I buy or make myself”
