Issue 4 fashion spotlight
Walking through the halls with green hair and platform shoes, Livinia Rosenthall is hard to miss. Drawing inspiration from both rock and alternative culture, she pulls off a style that doesn’t conform to the norms. “I like ‘80s goth style a lot, but that is a lot to pull off, so I just kinda look at that and take some little bits of inspiration from that,” she said when discussing what influences her fashion. She doesn’t worry about other people’s perceptions; instead, she embraces the unique image she’s created. While having a sweet personality, she knows that her looks can be intimidating—even admitting that it can sometimes frighten little children. “I think it's the big shoes that are a little scary.”
With his laid-back and grunge style, Hunter Main makes a statement. “I wouldn’t really know how to describe it, it’s just me, I guess,” he responded when asked how he would describe his clothes. “I’ve heard skater, I’ve heard grunge, I’ve heard e-boy… ” He’s been dressing this way since sophomore year, changing from the classic “khakis and Hollister” boy to baggy clothes and long hair. “I don’t like how [my hair] looks short, because it looks like everyone else.” His indifference to the norm allows him to invent his own style.
