HOW A NORMAL DAY CO. PLANS TO REDEFINE EVERYDAY STYLE

As a high schooler, many of us are full of dreams for our future, but Cole Riedel, 12, has already made his dream a reality. This January, Cole launched his company, A Normal Day Co, which sells “simple lifestyle clothing.” On the website, you’ll find shirts and sweatshirts in white, gray, or black with the day of the week or the word “everyday” on them. Though the colors are mostly neutral so they can match with the rest of an outfit easily, the logo on some of the clothing are in a rainbow font.

“I came up with the idea late one night wondering what I was gonna wear for the next day and I was just thinking back on how could I make getting dressed so simple yet different every single day so that somebody couldn’t be like ‘oh you wore that shirt yesterday,’' Cole said. It took him about 3 ½ months to make the idea a reality.

Cole designed the website, all of the clothing, and the logo himself. When an order is submitted, it’s sent to a print-on-demand website to which his designs are uploaded. As of now, the website features sweatshirts, long sleeve shirts, t-shirts, and a beanbag. Most of the clothes are unisex, however, a cropped sweatshirt, geared more towards girls, was added recently and he shared that we’ll be seeing fitted shirts soon.

Some of Cole’s SJHS classes have come in handy with his start-up business. He has taken Marketing, Applied Business Tech, and Graphic Arts, all of which have helped him along the way. Next year, Cole will be attending Grand Valley State University where he plans on furthering his education in business. He plans on bringing the A Normal Day Co with him there and expanding it.

Cole wears his brand every day of the week for publicity. He’s currently working on getting his company more known by hosting Instagram giveaways, creating stickers, and expanding to other social media platforms such as Facebook to reach a different population.

“It’s a slow start, but a lot of friends and people support it and have gotten stuff. I’m just trying to work on marketing it right now and making it bigger and better.”

“It’s a slow start, but a lot of friends and people support it and have gotten stuff. I’m just trying to work on marketing it right now and making it bigger and better,” Cole said. It’s quite an accomplishment for a high schooler to follow through on such a big project. “I want to expand it more and see how far I can take it,” he said.
