Girls and Boys Track and Field State Finals

Gail Vaikutis, 10 passes the baton to J’Niya White, 11 in the 4x400 meter relay at the regional meet. The Girls Track and Field team took 3rd place at regionals and qualified for MITCA D1 State Team Championships. 

The girls and boys division 1 track and field state meet took place June 4, 2022 at Rockford High School. The boys team placed 15th; the girls team placed 6th.

Gerry Capaccio took 9th in Shot Put. Trey McGinnis took 5th in the 200 meter dash. Cole Lakin, Trey, Caleb Garey, Preston Nichols took 2nd in the 4x100 meter relay. Will Fiesbeck, Shay White, Alex Moyer, Cole Toney took 6th in 4x800 meter relay, and Trey McGinnis took 13th in 100 meter dash.

 “Season was washed out a lot but an overall success. We finished 2nd in Conference. First in West Division, tied with Portage Central,” Coach Todd Rose said. 

The girls track and field team also had a very successful weekend. The 4x100 meter relay, which included; Sam Ebbert, Lilly Woytsek, Gabriella Wiskow, and Mimi Joseph, took 24th. J’Niya White, Jillian Tunnicliff, Lauren Koch, and Mimi Joseph, took 21st in the 4x200 meter relay. The 4x800 meter relay with Riley Mullen, Jillian Tunnicliff, Elena Figueroa, and Gail Vaikutis took 12th place. Sam Ebbert took 5th in the girls pole vaulting. Mimi Joseph took 6th in the girls long jump. Karly Klaer took 9th in the girls shot put. 

The girls and boys track team did not just have a successful weekend at state but had a successful season overall. 

“We had a very successful season with the girls winning the SMAC West Division and winning the conference championships. We finished in third place at the Regional meet and qualified for the MITCA D1 Team State Championships where we finished in 6th place out of the 14 best teams in the state,” Coach Mike Mahler said.
