How online school is changing in SJHS

With the mask requirement being lifted as well as social distancing, there is no need for online classes to be offered anymore. Starting next year, SJHS will only be offering 21F classes during the day instead of full time virtual classes.

As restrictions continue to loosen as the nation recovers from the recent pandemic--some may have wondered what’s going to happen to online classes? Virtual classes popped up as a safe way to continue education online without putting individual health at risk. Since SJHS has gone back to relatively normal, the school has stated that the oncoming year of 22-23, “St. Joseph High School will not be offering a full time virtual option next year, but we will continue to offer 21F online classes throughout the day,” Vice-Principal Amy Dirlam said.

Whether or not one style is better than the other has been an ongoing discussion.

“The main difference is the freedom and flexibility. In-person classes, there are a set due dates that you have to be ready for and if not there will be consequences. Whereas online, you go at your own pace,” Brooke Hartman, 10, said. So while she views online classes as liberating, others fear that it’s not effective because some students may lose motivation.
