Diving into Districts

The Saint Joseph varsity softball team will be headed to Portage Northern on Saturday, June 3rd to compete in this season's district game against Mattawan. Falling short the past few years, the team keeps spirits high with a good feeling of winning.

“I am hoping to come out of districts as a champion. Last year we fell short in the championship game so I'm hoping this year we can redeem ourselves. Knowing that Saturday could be the last day of my high school softball career and the last time playing with these girls is daunting. I'm trying to soak up every moment I can.” Said senior Camille Radenbaugh.

Having a successful season of 21-11, the Bears have high expectations for this game. Along with having to face the dreaded task of sending off their seniors, many of the upcoming juniors are ready to take on the task and role of a leader.

“As a freshman I was new to the school and didn’t know many people. I was shy and lacked a lot of confidence, but the older I’ve gotten, I’ve learned who I am and how to lead my team. I’ve enjoyed this team so much, it’s unlike any other year. I will miss this team greatly which is why I’m putting in a lot of work to hopefully get the results on Saturday.” Stated senior Breanne Pratley.

The team crowds around their coach. Discussing how they played after the game, the girls pat each other on the back regardless of the game’s outcome. Good score or not, coach Joe Spitale stays proud of his team.
