The SJHS Girls Tennis Team Exceeds Expectations at State

After receiving enough points at districts and regionals, the girl’s tennis team qualified for the MHSAA state finals. On June 2, the team traveled to Midland, Michigan, and faced multiple opponents such as Portage Northern, East Lansing, Grosse Pointe North, and South Lyon. Overall, out of the 26 teams competing, the girls emerged with a 5th place along with East Grand Rapids High School. 

“Overall, states was so much fun, and I’m super sad that the season is over,” Maddie Ugalde, 11, said. Sheplayed in place of Chloe Cluff, 12for number #3 singles.

Not only did the girls tennis team earn a 5th place tie, but several of the players made it to the State Semi Finals: Ellie Fischer, 10; Leontine Bonutto, 12; Grace Yuan, 11; Reillie Netzley, 11, and Ceci Ruchti, 11. 

“I’m super proud of what the team accomplished this season. I’m feel like this great group of girls made my experience in America so much fun,” Leontine #4 double said. Leontine was  partnered with Reillie.

States closed the girl’s tennis season, leaving them with a 6-0-1 record.
