Revisions to Attendance Policy Starting Next Fall

Next fall will bring a new school year and a revised attendance policy.

“The biggest changes are that instead of an attendance contract being optional with teachers once a student hits their 11th absence, students simply will lose credit for the course or must pass the final exam with a 77% to earn credit.  The other key factor is that it is on the 11th absence regardless of the reason for the absence.  There will be a review for anyone who has medical issues, school related or other potential absences that would be potentially excused,” Mr. Andrew Pratley, vice principal, said.

The revised policy is not much different from this past school year. Moving forward the attendance contract will just be upheld for all students at their 11th absence.

Accountability was the word used by Mrs. Uzelac, attendance secretary, to describe what will have to change among some students for the coming school year. “Students and parents both will have to gain some accountability around their attendance, ” Mrs. Uzelac said.
